Project Runway/Models recap

Yosuzi Sylvester

Yosuzi Sylvester

I just finished watching the premiere of Project Runway and the new show Models of the Runway. I just want to pose the questions: Who thinks Yosuzi lied about her measurements? Who thinks Michael used her as a scapegoat for his own mistakes?

My take is that smocking is difficult by hand, so kudos to him for that skill. BUT it is very easy to overshoot your gathering. Why not use elastic thread so he would have had some wiggle room? I DON’T think she lied. I think that would be suicide in that competition, and she seemed pretty smart and together…

I guess we’ll never know :) Can’t wait for next week!

tv update (sytycd spoiler alert)

Of course I’m glued to the Olympics, but I’ve started Tivo-ing them because NBC is going CRAZY with commercial breaks. I think I’m just so used to the Tivo that I have no patience for commercials. Especially after each and every 5 minutes of Olympic coverage. I’m sure I’m missing really good Hallmark-esque

I heart swimmers!

I heart swimmers!

Olympic moments. I did catch the Johnson & Johnson commercial where Cullen Jones thanks his mom. I love that one. Of course, it made me cry.

I have to point out my favorite Olympic moments. I loved the giant printing press and the tai chi masters in the opening ceremony. The whole thing really appealed to my band-geek side – awesome formations, keeping those circles while doing all those crazy tai chi moves?! Awesome!

And of course, the men’s swimming relays have been so exciting. And the womens! Really, it’s all exciting. Although, I don’t seem to love gymnastics as much as I used to. I think I get a little caught up in the toll it’s taking on these girls – especially the Chinese ones (who are absolutely NOT 16). I do love that 33 year-old German lady though. I hope she wins a gold.

How about our President and family being the US’ biggest fan? On one hand, the “most spirited” in me is happy to see such high level support. I’m sure it means a great deal to the athletes, who definitely deserve the support. But the concerned citizen in me can’t help but think, “he sure has a lot of time on his hands!” I mean, telling Putin that Russia is using excessive force on the sovereign nation of Georgia and that he is against the bombing outside of South Ossetia is all well and good. Even asking for an Olympic cease-fire seems reasonable. Coming from anyone but George W. Bush. Who has been bombing the sovereign nation of Iraq for years now, who has called no such Olympic cease fire, who has no boundaries when it comes to acting on the offensive – even when there’s no defense.

Okay, enough with the soapbox.

Now, back to my normal viewing habits. I don’t want to post a spoiler, but can you believe last week’s Mad Men??? So THAT’s what happened to Peggy’s baby! That show is so good.

And Joshua winning SYTYCD – very cool. If it couldn’t be Katie, then I’m glad it was Joshua. He sure earned his money on that show – power lifting every girl a hundred times in every routine. I just loved him the whole season.

I’m totally enjoying the High School Musical reality show – get in the picture? get in the game? Whatever, it’s great. I can hardly stand how the kids say “like” every other word, but they sure can sing.

excited

Here are some things I’m excited about:

  • On TV: Kathy Griffin’s My Life on the D List, Flipping Out, So You Think You Can Dance and all the shows starting in July.
  • My new Nikon S550 camera!!!
  • My newly organized desk drawer and my new gel roller bic pens.
  • My increase in hours for my job.
  • The new authors I’ve been enjoying: Sherryl Woods and Robyn Carr. And speaking of books, Jennifer Weiner’s newest book “Certain Girls” – which was AWESOME.
  • Finding SuperBuzzy.com, an awesome Japanese fabric shop online.

I think that’s it for now :)

where do I begin…

So much has been happening. Obama clinches the nomination, So You Think You Can Dance started, I made lots of crafts and food, my son started saying things like “that’s enough, Mommy!” and “just leave it!” Whew. I’ve been avoiding the blog…too much to say.

Hope stickers

Well, let’s start at the beginning. First, I’ve been a little wary to claim victory for Barack – Hillary has 17 million reasons to hold out until the convention, and I wouldn’t put it past her. Obama '08 magnetBut I did receive my cool Obama magnet (my gift for donating), so that’s exciting. I also got my super awesome Shepard Fairey stickers from Sticker Robot, but because of they’re VERY permanent sticking capabilities, I’ve been a little gun shy about sticking them on anything. Not to be too much of a bandwagon fan, but as soon as Barack’s nomination is a little more set in stone, I plan to put the first on on my sewing machine. It’s decidedly naked in it’s unadorned state.

william watches history unfold

Next on the blogging list? Reality TV. Step it Up and Dance’s finale was a little anti-climatic. I won’t reveal the winner in case it’s still stewing in your Tivo, but I’ll just say it wasn’t much of a surprise. I have been thoroughly enjoying the auditions for this year’s So You Think You Can Dance – I can’t wait for the top 20 to begin their competition. Some of the audition stuff seems to be setting the dancers up for failure. Like that last girl Katie, that got picked over her best friend. They already portrayed her as a quitter to the American public, and made her look like she didn’t care if her friend got in, even though her friend was SOOO supportive of her. So that’s not good. I’m excited about the finale of Top Chef. If Lisa wins I’ll be very sad. I can’t stand the way she stands in front of the judges table – that awful “who gives a shit” face she makes is getting on my nerves. Stephanie and Blaise seem to be more deserving of the title based on their performance throughout the season. I like them both the same.

I think I’ll make my crafty achievements a new post – so that’s it for now.

Idle thoughts on Idol

I really loved Brooke singing with Graham Nash. What a treat. So much more pleasurable that watching Brooke dance! I hated Jordin Sparks gold dress. I totally loved Gladys Knight and the “pips” – my eternal love for Robert Downey Jr. is validated once again.

Those were really the only highlights for me. I fast forwarded most of it. Oh yeah, I thought Syesha outsang Donna Summer, which (along with Donna’s wig) made me a little sad. I liked the George Michael tribute at the end – mostly because I love those songs. Especially Freedom. Chikeze is pretty awesome. I’ll buy his music on iTunes.

I feel bad for the choreographer of the national tour…he’s got a tough road ahead. I think only three or four of those top 12 have any natural rhythm.

Was Paula crying for George Michael? She’s so corny. She’s like the craziest fan girl of them all.

As for the winner, I’m not going to post it, just in case you haven’t watched your Tivo yet. Well, I’ll tell you it’s a David. ha ha ha. Does it really matter which one? They’re both great.

Now, it’s off to Top Chef…and tomorrow, So You Think You Can Dance!! Woo hoo!!!

step it up and dance

I’m predictably addicted to this dance reality show on Bravo, Step it Up and Dance. But the best part is that on Bravotv.com, they have something called dancealongs – where the choreographers break down the dance for ME! In my living room! Check it out:

Dancealong on bravotv.com

Oh yeah, and counting down to So You Think You Can Dance…May 22!!! Woo hoo!

dancing with the stars

Did anyone else see the lineup for the new Dancing With the Stars season? I’m not a huge fan of that show, but this season looks pretty good…Christy Yamaguchi, Monica Seles, Marly Matland…I don’t know how to spell these peoples’ names, but I want to see them dance! Penn from Penn and Teller? He’s a big goofy guy. I can’t wait to see him. And Steve Gutenberg and Adam Corolla? And the girl from Hairspray? Excellent. No anti-aging pills for these people – everyone looks great – even Priscilla Presley, although her collagen lips are a little weird. Anyway, I am actually looking forward to this one.

As for the Bruno and Carrie Ann battle, it wasn’t all that exciting. That Kelsey is a super-awesome dancer, though. I wish I had her legs!

Inn Love

chateau la rueI really want to go and stay at Tori and Dean’s Chateau La Rue. I know there are ton’s of California bed and breakfast options, but I’d love to have that experience. I appreciate them trying to have a normal life, working hard, building a business, etc. But I wonder how many people are going there just so they can say, “Tori Spelling cooked me breakfast.” I bet Tori and Dean don’t really care as long as the rooms are filled.

I drove by it the other day, and it’s hard to see from the road, but I was too shy to get closer. I hate to infringe on people. But isn’t that silly? If it was any other B&B, I’d drive right up. It’s hard to get past the fact that I watched Tori as Donna for years, and have always enjoyed her terrible Lifetime movies.

They were on Ellen the other day, and I thought they were so cute. Tori looked awesome – none of the baby fat she’s had all through Inn Love. I wish Ellen had had more time with them. The interview was super short.

Did she not inherit anything from her mega-rich dad? I didn’t follow the story at all, but I know on Inn Love they talk about money worries. Seems crazy.

SYTYCD

Last week was so sad for me! I really didn’t want Sara or Dominic to go, but I can see why they did. Still – for both breakers to leave on the same night didn’t seem fair. Also, I’m not sure what was going on with Danny’s solo – I think he fell after that backflip, and tried to cover it, but didn’t quite make it. I cried my eyes out during the Mia Michaels routine, as I’m sure all daddies’ girls did. I really didn’t like Shane Sparks ensemble routine – it seemed like a corny cheerleading competition routine to me. Not his best. Plus, I think it’s weird that one dancer has any kind of spotlight. I don’t think that’s fair – unless they have to try out for it. Why Lauren got to be The One in the Matrix jacket, I couldn’t tell you. But it made it look like she was the principle dancer.

My biggest SYTYCD news is that I got tickets to the ensemble performance taping on Thursday morning in LA, and then, if I go (which, of course, I will), then I get tickets to Thursday night’s results show. Woo hoo! I hope it’s a good performer that night, plus, I get to see them all do their solos! Hooray! It’s going to be an all day deal though, and apparently it involves a lot of standing, but who cares! I was never going to buy the $50 ticket to see the live show, but now I get to see the dancers anyway! Woo hoo!

I also got confirmed for the waiting list for Ellen for Sept. I’m guaranteed the riff raff room, and possibly, the studio audience. If I don’t make it into the audience, I’m guaranteed tickets later in the season (fingers crossed for the 12 days of Christmas episodes). Sounds good to me! My husband is so sweet – he’s actually taking the day off on Thursday so I can go to SYTYCD. We all know staying home with the baby is waaay more fun, but still, it’s nice of him (and his boss).

Top Chef

I just don’t care about these people. I liked Joey – big baby that he was, but I didn’t really care that he got voted off. I like the tall guy, but I can’t ever remember his name. Anyway, I hope he wins. The show definitely needs more drama this season.

Flipping Out

Anyone watching this one on Bravo? It’s pretty good. It’s like Monk meets Flip This House (with the guy in SC). So far, so good.

Saving Grace and other shows

Saving Grace Holly HunterIs anyone watching Saving Grace on TNT? I really liked the first episode, but the second one was a little wierd. I still love Holly Hunter though, so I’ll keep watching it. Plus, there’s really not much else on. So here’s the status of my TV watching right now:

Everyday:

Days of Our Lives
Uncommon Threads and Creative Juice on DIY

Mondays:

All TNT – The Closer, Heartland, and Saving Grace

Tuesdays:

Greek on ABC Family

Eureka on Sci Fi

Wednesdays:

Top Chef on Bravo
So You Think You Can Dance

Thursdays:

So You Think You Can Dance
Burn Notice on USA

Fridays:

Monk and Psych on USA

Saturdays:

Big fat nothing…I hate Saturday (for TV purposes).

Sunday:

All Lifetime: Side Order of Life, State of Mind, and Army Wives.

I guess TNT is trying to throw a wrench in my Tivo schedule this Sunday, because they’re starting a new 3-week special series called The Company that looks great. I’m going to have to figure a way around the not being able to record two cable channels at once.

I also love History Detectives on PBS. I’m not sure when it comes on – my Tivo just records it when it doesn’t conflict with anything else.

Anyone else watching something good that I’m missing out on?
