So much has been happening. Obama clinches the nomination, So You Think You Can Dance started, I made lots of crafts and food, my son started saying things like “that’s enough, Mommy!” and “just leave it!” Whew. I’ve been avoiding the blog…too much to say.
Well, let’s start at the beginning. First, I’ve been a little wary to claim victory for Barack – Hillary has 17 million reasons to hold out until the convention, and I wouldn’t put it past her. But I did receive my cool Obama magnet (my gift for donating), so that’s exciting. I also got my super awesome Shepard Fairey stickers from Sticker Robot, but because of they’re VERY permanent sticking capabilities, I’ve been a little gun shy about sticking them on anything. Not to be too much of a bandwagon fan, but as soon as Barack’s nomination is a little more set in stone, I plan to put the first on on my sewing machine. It’s decidedly naked in it’s unadorned state.
Next on the blogging list? Reality TV. Step it Up and Dance’s finale was a little anti-climatic. I won’t reveal the winner in case it’s still stewing in your Tivo, but I’ll just say it wasn’t much of a surprise. I have been thoroughly enjoying the auditions for this year’s So You Think You Can Dance – I can’t wait for the top 20 to begin their competition. Some of the audition stuff seems to be setting the dancers up for failure. Like that last girl Katie, that got picked over her best friend. They already portrayed her as a quitter to the American public, and made her look like she didn’t care if her friend got in, even though her friend was SOOO supportive of her. So that’s not good. I’m excited about the finale of Top Chef. If Lisa wins I’ll be very sad. I can’t stand the way she stands in front of the judges table – that awful “who gives a shit” face she makes is getting on my nerves. Stephanie and Blaise seem to be more deserving of the title based on their performance throughout the season. I like them both the same.
I think I’ll make my crafty achievements a new post – so that’s it for now.

I really loved Brooke singing with Graham Nash. What a treat. So much more pleasurable that watching Brooke dance! I hated Jordin Sparks gold dress. I totally loved Gladys Knight and the “pips” – my eternal love for Robert Downey Jr. is validated once again.
Those were really the only highlights for me. I fast forwarded most of it. Oh yeah, I thought Syesha outsang Donna Summer, which (along with Donna’s wig) made me a little sad. I liked the George Michael tribute at the end – mostly because I love those songs. Especially Freedom. Chikeze is pretty awesome. I’ll buy his music on iTunes.
I feel bad for the choreographer of the national tour…he’s got a tough road ahead. I think only three or four of those top 12 have any natural rhythm.
Was Paula crying for George Michael? She’s so corny. She’s like the craziest fan girl of them all.
As for the winner, I’m not going to post it, just in case you haven’t watched your Tivo yet. Well, I’ll tell you it’s a David. ha ha ha. Does it really matter which one? They’re both great.
Now, it’s off to Top Chef…and tomorrow, So You Think You Can Dance!! Woo hoo!!!

Last week was so sad for me! I really didn’t want Sara or Dominic to go, but I can see why they did. Still – for both breakers to leave on the same night didn’t seem fair. Also, I’m not sure what was going on with Danny’s solo – I think he fell after that backflip, and tried to cover it, but didn’t quite make it. I cried my eyes out during the Mia Michaels routine, as I’m sure all daddies’ girls did. I really didn’t like Shane Sparks ensemble routine – it seemed like a corny cheerleading competition routine to me. Not his best. Plus, I think it’s weird that one dancer has any kind of spotlight. I don’t think that’s fair – unless they have to try out for it. Why Lauren got to be The One in the Matrix jacket, I couldn’t tell you. But it made it look like she was the principle dancer.
My biggest SYTYCD news is that I got tickets to the ensemble performance taping on Thursday morning in LA, and then, if I go (which, of course, I will), then I get tickets to Thursday night’s results show. Woo hoo! I hope it’s a good performer that night, plus, I get to see them all do their solos! Hooray! It’s going to be an all day deal though, and apparently it involves a lot of standing, but who cares! I was never going to buy the $50 ticket to see the live show, but now I get to see the dancers anyway! Woo hoo!
I also got confirmed for the waiting list for Ellen for Sept. I’m guaranteed the riff raff room, and possibly, the studio audience. If I don’t make it into the audience, I’m guaranteed tickets later in the season (fingers crossed for the 12 days of Christmas episodes). Sounds good to me! My husband is so sweet – he’s actually taking the day off on Thursday so I can go to SYTYCD. We all know staying home with the baby is waaay more fun, but still, it’s nice of him (and his boss).
I just don’t care about these people. I liked Joey – big baby that he was, but I didn’t really care that he got voted off. I like the tall guy, but I can’t ever remember his name. Anyway, I hope he wins. The show definitely needs more drama this season.
Anyone watching this one on Bravo? It’s pretty good. It’s like Monk meets Flip This House (with the guy in SC). So far, so good.

Is anyone watching Saving Grace on TNT? I really liked the first episode, but the second one was a little wierd. I still love Holly Hunter though, so I’ll keep watching it. Plus, there’s really not much else on. So here’s the status of my TV watching right now:

All TNT – The Closer, Heartland, and Saving Grace

Big fat nothing…I hate Saturday (for TV purposes).
All Lifetime: Side Order of Life, State of Mind, and Army Wives.
I guess TNT is trying to throw a wrench in my Tivo schedule this Sunday, because they’re starting a new 3-week special series called The Company that looks great. I’m going to have to figure a way around the not being able to record two cable channels at once.
I also love History Detectives on PBS. I’m not sure when it comes on – my Tivo just records it when it doesn’t conflict with anything else.
Anyone else watching something good that I’m missing out on?

So – I’m two weeks behind on my reality TV check. Here’s what I think:
So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD)
First, was anyone actually watching fireworks? Or were you mad – like me – that SYTYCD wasn’t on? Anyway, I was sad to see Jessie go – but she clearly had too many health issues going on – not fair to her partner. And how funny was Pascha dancing with that lady? Don’t get me wrong, she was good, but she really did look like Bette Midler. I thought it was hysterical, and a little yucky. I was super sad to see Jesus go. If only he hadn’t been up against the two most long-legged jumping dancers on the planet for his solo!
On to this week…I did not like Hok’s waltz at all. Why did they make him wear high-waters? I loved Sabra and Dominique’s hip hop. I think she’s my favorite girl. Hok is still my favorite guy, but no more waltzes, okay? I also did not like Shauna and Cedric’s tango. I thought it looked so awkward. I voted them off in my head as they were dancing, and apparently I was right :)
I wish they would have shown a little bit of Brittany Snow in the whole Hairspray red carpet reel. I loved her on American Dreams. And how cute is that little Zac Efron? I guess he’s not so little – I just think of him on Summerland…I confuse him with that cute Chris Lowell that’s going to be on that new Grey’s Anatomy spin-off. I loved Ricki Lake’s version of Hairspray, and this one looks even better – can’t wait!
Oh yeah, did anyone else think that Hillary Duff looked exhausted after her performance? That big sigh? She was just okay. I love her silly teenagery movies, but her singing just isn’t for me. She wouldn’t win American Idol, that’s for sure.
Sad to see Sandee go. Hung is turning into a jerk – snotty, arrogant. I was so happy that Lia won – she’s an underdog, for sure! I also like Howie a lot. Even when he got mad, what he was saying was reasonable, not crazy cursing like that dumb Joey guy. The two tall cute guys seem like they’ll go far – too bad I can’t remember their names :)
Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List
The prison episode was one of my favorites. She’s really becoming a whole person. I used to just laugh at her cheapness (always trying to get something for free) and willingness to take any job. But this season, she’s dealt with her dad’s death, talked about her divorce, started dating…she’s hysterical. This week she’s headed to London. That promises to be ridiculous, so everyone should watch.
Anyone watching this show? I have a few episodes Tivoed. I watched one and she was SUPER obnoxious. Just like she is on American Idol, so I don’t know if I’ll keep watching.
Starting tonight: Monk and Psych on USA! Hooray! Also, a good show you’re probably not watching is Burn Notice, Thursday nights on USA. Very funny – and my husband watches it with me! Wonder of all wonders! And just to keep up my broken record refrain, watch The Closer on TNT and Army Wives on Lifetime. My favorite shows on TV right now.
Some other stuff I’ve been watching due to lack of prime time options: DIY’s Uncommon Threads and Creative Juice. Those shows are FULL of cool ideas for all things crafty. How do I get into a group that would be on Uncommon Threads? Can I start one? Anyone part of a crafty group?

So You Think You Can Dance
I seem to be out of the loop this week because my sister was in town. Somehow, my Tivo didn’t record the results show, and I missed Jimmy being voted off of SYTYCD. I am suprised at this – I wish I could have seen his solo. I was not surprised at Faina.
And going way back to last Wednesday – is Hok’s partner the most annoying girl on the planet? I guess we get used to the mature teenagers like Jordin Sparks, so when someone sounds their age (i.e., Jaimie), they sound stupid. I think I just love Hok so much that I want his partner to be someone like Sabra or Sara. I like those girls. And doesn’t the fact that Sabra has only been dancing 4 years inspire you? It’s like, man, I could get there in4 years! Not really, but it’s nice to dream. Anyway, I think Jaimie is really good – I just don’t like her interviews. And it’s sort of impressive that she still has such big boobs after dancing for so long.
America’s Got Talent
I basically hate this show, but did you happen to see the karate guys kicking ass to music? Very impressive.
My Life on the D-List
Ugh – sooo sad. I loved Kathy’s dad. I was crying and crying. And how funny was it that she was asking Jackie what lesbians thought were funny. Can’t wait to see how the candyman works out. Watch this show, already!
Not sure what happened here – I think my Tivo didn’t record it or something. Sad. I’ll just have to find one of the million times Bravo reruns things so I can watch last week’s episode.
On the Lot
I deleted this one from my Tivo – sooo boring.
Did I miss any? What are you watching? In other TV news, I’m totally loving Army Wives on Lifetime and The Closer on TNT.
Bravo fox reality tv so you think you can dance Top Chef TV: hok kathy griffin My Life on the D-List on the lot pirate master reality check
I decided to comment weekly on the various reality shows. I’ll keep it kind of short, even though I really have pages worth of opinions on some of them…
By far, my favorite reality show ever. Although the judges are a little annoying, the dancers really are so talented. And how awesome is it for this country to have a renewed interest in dance – and not just booty-shaking, dirty dancing, but real choreography. (Not to say that dirty booty-shaking isn’t choreographed, but I’m glad to see a little variety on my TV screen.)
So here’s what I think so far. I wasn’t sad at all to see Ricky and Ashley go. They looked pretty crazy doing the Argentine Tango – she did look a lot bigger than him. I don’t understand why she was in such high heels. The emotion on Dominic and Cedric’s faces when they were in the bottom three was a little heartbreaking – I will hate it when one of them eventually gets voted off. So far, my favorite guys are Cedric and Hok – because of their tryouts. We’ll see who stands out during all the different styles. I still think Hok is such an amazing entertainer – I can’t take my eyes off of him, even when they have him being the dog (which I thought was terrible.)
As for the girls – I have to give props to my hometown girl, Jessi. She said she was from Rockledge, FL, and then the announcer said she was from Cocoa Beach. It’s all Brevard County, so I automatically like her for that. Plus, she’s pretty awesome. But I have to say my most favorite is Lacey. I hope they stop playing up her brother, and start focusing on her talent – which she has in spades. I also like that she doesn’t have a perfect dancer’s body. Some dancers look great because they have fabulous long legs even if they’re not the best. Lacey doesn’t have those blessings, but you don’t even notice when she’s dancing – you just see her performance.
Haven’t even watched it. Seems like a lame Survivor knockoff in time for the new Pirates of the Carribbean movie.
I’ve been kind of watching this one, but I have been really underwhelmed. I love Carrie Fisher and Garry Marshall, but that’s about it. The spokes-model/host is super irritating to me, but I think her awkward hugs/kisses/crashes with the contestants are always funny.
So far so good – I liked the first episode. I already like Tre, Hung and Sandee. I already hate Joey. We’ll see what they cook up.
Kathy Griffin is the best. I HATED her on Suddenly Susan – I thought she was sooo irritating. But I started watching D-List in the first season, and watching her comedy shows on Bravo, and she’s hilarious. Smart, quick, honest…I love her. If you like pop culture stuff, you should check her out. Even if you’ve always thought she was irritating. She really grows on you. But watch out – she has a serious potty mouth. I think it’s part of her charm :)
I think those are the only ones I’m watching…I can’t think of any more right now. Leave a comment if I’m missing a good one!
Bravo Top Chef: Army Wives CW Heartland Lifetime Monk My Life on the D-List Psych Saving Grace TBS The Closer The Starter Wife TNT USA Veronica Mars
I cannot bear to have NO TV to watch, so in the summer months, I branch out to the cable networks. So far, I’ve been enjoying Bravo’s My Life on the D-List and this week, the new Top Chef starts. (I thought their little former Top Chef smackdown was kind of lame.)
I was checking around on the different network websites last night to see when their summer seasons start, and I was happy to see that The Closer starts this weekend on TNT. In July, I have two new shows to look forward to – The Heartland with Treat Williams (yay!) and Saving Grace with Holly Hunter (double yay!). So that’s good news. I was sad to see that they canceled Saved. I really liked that show.
I’ve also been watching Army Wives on Lifetime, and I’m looking forward to their other new series, Side Order of Life and State of Mind.
Then I went to the regular networks to see if there were any shows to look forward to besides Hidden Palms, So You Think You Can Dance and Last Comic Standing and I was SO SAD to see that the CW might be canceling Veronica Mars! This breaks my heart. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that show. No more Gilmore Girls, and now no more Veronica? It’s really too much to bear. (Plus, there’s a war going on.)
So, if you love Veronica like I do, email the CW. Here’s their address:
I don’t know if it will help, but I always prefer to take action rather than simply complain.
Anyway, let me know what you’re watching to make the best of rerun season.
