Who, me?

crazy craft room!I like to blog. I like to read. I love to craft. I’m a work-from-home mom, trying to find balance and structure. I’m also trying to live a little greener and a little less selfish. Most of the time I’m pretty light-hearted, but every once in a while, I will get on a soap box. Bear with me.

I’m glad you stopped by - feel free to read, it’s scintillating stuff. And make sure to check the right side-bar for some free downloads.

i recently joined lori holt’s apron club online. i love your applique. unfortunately i’m not ver y good at hand applique. how did you do it? please email me when you get free time. thanks! kristie

Kristie,
Thanks for visiting my blog. I recommend taking a class in applique at your local quilt shop. There are a bunch of different methods. I use freezer paper and starch, and it’s quite a bit of prep work for each piece. Some people just trace the image on their fabric, cut the pieces out with a seam allowance, and turn the edges under as they hand-sew (needle-turn applique). Some people don’t worry about the seam allowance, and just cut the image out and sew it down, or use heat transfer to stick it on.

I only took one class, and the teacher (Susan Priloeu) taught me an applique technique that I can use for any project.

Good luck! There’s definitely a learning curve and patience requirement involved - but I think applique is so awesome when it’s done, it’s worth the effort.

I hope you’ll share pictures of your Apron Club projects!

hi! i just came across your post (abi? links to your site) from fembellish, where you asked about the bernina 440qe if it was worth it to a novice sewer. (er, me too!) and i saw you had to email fembellish direct. any chance you’ll share what she said?
er, back in 2007? (time flies)

i love your work, esp. the little doll dress quilt. but with hand to heart, i loved the free hand quilting pics too. very sweet. and now, (me a novice) putting the dots together w/the whole bernina bsr thing. OH, & i loved your quilt w/the plushy backing. beautiful idea!
ok whatever you remember, would be greatly appreciated.
(i know, nows prob. not the best time to get a new machine, but still a girl pines) thanks! be

You know - I don’t remember. I went through my email and don’t have the response anymore. But I did end up just buying another Singer for $300…and it worked great for a year and a half, then it froze. BUT, I bought it at JoAnn’s and it’s still under warranty, so I’m shipping it off to the service station next week :)

thanks blabby!, well maybe the bernina aurora 440qe-fairies will whisper into your hub’s ear. ok. and sprinkle loads of moola too.
(hey it looks like your DH reads your blog, putting in a good word for you.) i will prob. go w/janome. good luck w/singer!

Hi,

I’m glad that I came across your blog. You have some very useful and interesting posts there. I will put a link to your blog from my site, if this is okay with you.

I help run a store called HiSunglasses.com; it’s not really a big one, but it’s getting there. Please have a look. If you could possibly place a small link of my site, that would be really great.

Have a great day and hope to hear from you.

Happy blogging.

Hi, after reading your book list, I wanted to send you a few suggestions: The Glass Castle and Half Broke Horse: a true-life novel both by Jeannette Walls and CC Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman.
They are great stories! Enjoy! Jennifer

Several years ago my mother gave me a book called The Persian Pickle Club, written by Sandra Dallas.
I was so moved by the Depression era story of these charming women in a quilting circle and their friendship and loyalty to one another that I decided to make it into a movie. Making a movie is not something I can do alone. Would you please help
spread the word to your friends and “Like” us on Facebook.
Sincerely,
Christine Fiore
