tv roundup
New season of The Closer: awesome.
New season of Saving Grace: awesome.
The Secret Life of the American Teenager: Good, but the acting is a little lame sometimes. Otherwise, I think the story is great, I love all the soap opera connections between the characters, and I think more kids and parents need to talk to eachother about sex and birth control.
So You Think You Can Dance: I feel like America pulled one over on the producers, who clearly wanted Kherington and Will to be the top two. I can’t help feeling like the whole thing is scripted and contrived, but I love to watch those people dance, so I really don’t care. I think Katie and Joshua are my favorites. And Chelsea. Katie and Chelsea are tied.
Army Wives, I forgot to Tivo an episode a couple weeks ago, so now I’m a few epidsodes behind. I hope they have the one I missed on iTunes. So far, though, that season is great.
I’ve also been enjoying the Get in the Show High School Musical auditions…some of those kids are really talented. Like that girl Shayna.
I think that’s it for TV. I also caught up on all the Harry Potter movies. I can’t wait for #6. It made me want to reread the books. Again. I heart Harry.
Oh, and Mad Men started!!! Woo hoo! What is going to happen to Peggy. Those characters are SO complicated - I really love the writing on that show. Seriously. If you’re not watching it, you’re missing out.

Saving Grace and other shows
Is anyone watching Saving Grace on TNT? I really liked the first episode, but the second one was a little wierd. I still love Holly Hunter though, so I’ll keep watching it. Plus, there’s really not much else on. So here’s the status of my TV watching right now:
Everyday:
Days of Our Lives
Uncommon Threads and Creative Juice on DIY
Mondays:
All TNT - The Closer, Heartland, and Saving Grace
Tuesdays:
Greek on ABC Family
Eureka on Sci Fi
Wednesdays:
Top Chef on Bravo
So You Think You Can Dance
Thursdays:
So You Think You Can Dance
Burn Notice on USA
Fridays:
Monk and Psych on USA
Saturdays:
Big fat nothing…I hate Saturday (for TV purposes).
Sunday:
All Lifetime: Side Order of Life, State of Mind, and Army Wives.
I guess TNT is trying to throw a wrench in my Tivo schedule this Sunday, because they’re starting a new 3-week special series called The Company that looks great. I’m going to have to figure a way around the not being able to record two cable channels at once.
I also love History Detectives on PBS. I’m not sure when it comes on - my Tivo just records it when it doesn’t conflict with anything else.
Anyone else watching something good that I’m missing out on?

all in a day’s work…
I made my first attempt at a mary jane’s pattern, and halfway into the first one, I realized I must be using too-chunky yarn. Even though I was using the G crochet hook, as the pattern specified, my mary jane was easily the size of a snow cap. WAY too big for any foot. So I unraveled it. I’ll start again with finer yarn and see how it goes.
My quilt run starts tomorrow, and I can barely contain my excitement. My husband has agreed to give me one full day of freedom each weekend so that I can travel all over my portion of the state visiting quilt shops. I’ve decided to map out a few scrapbook, yarn and bead shops as well - might as well get them all in, right? My brother-in-law even lent me his tom tom, so all I have to do is have the addresses, and Mr. T (or the voice of my choice) will tell me how to get to each shop!
In TV news, I’ve been thoroughly enjoying The Closer and Army Wives. Cable really has some excellent shows. I saw a promo yesterday for a miniseries on Sci Fi called Tin Man - looks like a retelling of the Wizard of Oz (with Richard Dreyfuss and Zooey Dechanel and Alan Cumming!). Coming in December - Very exciting!
Anyone watching Days of Our Lives? I’m getting a little fed up with the crazy-awful Irish and Italian accents they’re coming up with recently, but I like the current storylines. Any thoughts?
In book news, I’ve been reading Debbie Macomber’s Cedar Cove series. I’m on the 4th book, and I really like it. I plan to do a review of all six books soon.
Hope all is well in your worlds!

Reality (TV) Check
So You Think You Can Dance
I seem to be out of the loop this week because my sister was in town. Somehow, my Tivo didn’t record the results show, and I missed Jimmy being voted off of SYTYCD. I am suprised at this - I wish I could have seen his solo. I was not surprised at Faina.
And going way back to last Wednesday - is Hok’s partner the most annoying girl on the planet? I guess we get used to the mature teenagers like Jordin Sparks, so when someone sounds their age (i.e., Jaimie), they sound stupid. I think I just love Hok so much that I want his partner to be someone like Sabra or Sara. I like those girls. And doesn’t the fact that Sabra has only been dancing 4 years inspire you? It’s like, man, I could get there in4 years! Not really, but it’s nice to dream. Anyway, I think Jaimie is really good - I just don’t like her interviews. And it’s sort of impressive that she still has such big boobs after dancing for so long.
America’s Got Talent
I basically hate this show, but did you happen to see the karate guys kicking ass to music? Very impressive.
My Life on the D-List
Ugh - sooo sad. I loved Kathy’s dad. I was crying and crying. And how funny was it that she was asking Jackie what lesbians thought were funny. Can’t wait to see how the candyman works out. Watch this show, already!
Top Chef
Not sure what happened here - I think my Tivo didn’t record it or something. Sad. I’ll just have to find one of the million times Bravo reruns things so I can watch last week’s episode.
On the Lot
I deleted this one from my Tivo - sooo boring.
Did I miss any? What are you watching? In other TV news, I’m totally loving Army Wives on Lifetime and The Closer on TNT.

Summer TV Season
I cannot bear to have NO TV to watch, so in the summer months, I branch out to the cable networks. So far, I’ve been enjoying Bravo’s My Life on the D-List and this week, the new Top Chef starts. (I thought their little former Top Chef smackdown was kind of lame.)
I was checking around on the different network websites last night to see when their summer seasons start, and I was happy to see that The Closer starts this weekend on TNT. In July, I have two new shows to look forward to - The Heartland with Treat Williams (yay!) and Saving Grace with Holly Hunter (double yay!). So that’s good news. I was sad to see that they canceled Saved. I really liked that show.
On USA, Monk and Psych both start in July. I’ve also been enjoying The Starter Wife - the second episode was a little odd, but I still liked it. And on TBS, My Boys starts in July.
I’ve also been watching Army Wives on Lifetime, and I’m looking forward to their other new series, Side Order of Life and State of Mind.
Then I went to the regular networks to see if there were any shows to look forward to besides Hidden Palms, So You Think You Can Dance and Last Comic Standing and I was SO SAD to see that the CW might be canceling Veronica Mars! This breaks my heart. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that show. No more Gilmore Girls, and now no more Veronica? It’s really too much to bear. (Plus, there’s a war going on.)
So, if you love Veronica like I do, email the CW. Here’s their address:
I don’t know if it will help, but I always prefer to take action rather than simply complain.
Anyway, let me know what you’re watching to make the best of rerun season.
