Hands-Free says Me!

I’m not sure if it’s happening in other states, but California’s hands-free law just went into effect on Jul 1. Here’s what it says. Well, there are actually two laws. SB 1613 says:

A person shall not drive a motor vehicle while using a wireless telephone unless that telephone is specifically designed and configured to allow hands-free listening and talking, and is used in that manner while driving.

The other law, SB 33, further amends the California vehicle code to prohibit drivers under the age of 18 from driving a motor vehicle while using a wireless telephone, even if equipped with a hands-free device, or while using other types of mobile communications devices.

Pretty strict on the under 18 crowd – they can’t use a cell phone, even with a hands-free device! I can’t say I disagree, though. I know that personally, I was ill-equipped to pay attention to everything I needed to pay attention to when I was first learning to drive. I got into three accidents and got two speeding tickets before I was 19. I did get one other speeding ticket when I was 21, but I was just speeding on purpose, so that’s fair.

So anyway, I’m a law-abiding citizen. I’ve got my handy Bluetooth Headsets. I don’t really mind it, except it always gets tangled in my hair, and since I wear glasses, it’s a little uncomfortable with everything behind my ear.

My phone is a Moto Q, so I was happy to find a Motorola Bluetooth. I didn’t have to buy any extra Bluetooth accessories, because my car charger and wall charger for my phone also work for my headset. Pretty efficient, right?

Now I just have to get my husband to stop texting while he’s driving. He’s the worst.

New iPod Nano

As my good friend Lou said, I’m just going to buy the iPod. I looked up the worth of my old shuffle on secondrotation.com (thanks, Steph!), and it’s worth a measly $20. So I’ll give it to someone instead. Now I just have to decide between the super cool colors of the new video iPod Nano!

I’m leaning towards red - which benefits HIV/AIDS missions in Africa. I considered the iPod Touch, but my MotoQ phone has internet, email, etc., so I don’t need any of that stuff. I’m excited that the Nano has video capability now - then I can watch TV shows at the gym, which will keep me from using the “my shows are on” excuse to stay home. Meanwhile, I’ll be Tivoing and VCRing all the other shows that are on so I don’t miss anything :) I’ve got a real sickness when it comes to TV.

I went to buy one at Best Buy last Friday and was so sad to find that they’re not even out yet. So this week is exciting, indeed! But the red one is only available online from the Apple store, so I need to pick a color first. What do you think?

Moto Q at the salon

My first official blog entry composed on my trusty Moto Q. Once I scrolled past my 275 categories, it works just fine!. I’m getting highlights put in my hair right now - and since I only approve of time wasting in front of the TV or on the internet, I figured this was a good time as any to blog. Technology is so cool.

So is anyone watching The Singing Bee? Here’s what it reminds me of. Remember that episode of Friends where Joey was auditioning for the really elaborate game show, and him and Chandler spent all day learning the rules and pretend playing so he’d be ready for the audition? I think there were golden monkeys or something? Well, that’s what The Singing Bee reminds me of. What’s with the round with the floating words? And the scantily clad dancers? They crack me up. Anyway, it’s entertaining.

Headed for the dryers…wish me luck!
