Last Sunday, I walked in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. My friends and family donated money, and together, we raised $166 for the Komen foundation! I had grand ideas of running the 5k - which I feel is well within my capabilities, but I’ve been battling some kind of crazy flu/sinus disaster, and it just wasn’t happening. But with pocket full of cough drops and some bottled water, I walked it just fine.

This leads me to my real point. I feel like I’m never going to lose any weight. I am so unmotivated about it. I go to the gym basically so I can keep eating what I want. This is not the formula for weight loss. I care, but I don’t. I care enough to keep going to the gym. But I don’t care enough to not eat pumpkin pie. I LOVE pumpkin pie. I use Cool Whip light on top - that helps, right?

Anyway, my dad gave me some hoodia - weight loss pills. I think they are an appetite suppressant. But, I can’t take them because it says don’t take if you’re CONSIDERING getting pregnant. That’s ominous, right? I’ve also got some hydroxycut, but haven’t taken it for the same reason.

I do want to lose weight before I get pregnant again. But I love the pumpkin pie. And mashed potatoes. And ramen noodles. I mean, really.

So tonight I was at the gym with every intention of jogging. Friday night, I jogged 1 mile and walked 1 mile - it felt good, and wasn’t too challenging, so I’m sure I could jog two miles. Not to sound totally lame, but here’s the problem. I have the old version of the iPod shuffle. It doesn’t have a screen, so the music is just stored on there as one big list. Your choices are to leave it on shuffle, and go by the luck of the draw, or put it on continuous play, and it plays in order. It’s a 1 GB shuffle, and I have it full of songs, so playing them in order is kind of boring. BUT, my running music - Airborn Ranger cadences - is somewhere down in the middle. The rest of the music is pretty mellow with beats all over the place, which isn’t conducive to running at all. I tried for 30 minutes to click through each song using the FFWD button to find the cadences while I was on the treadmill tonight, and no luck. I’m not sure what the problem was, but apparently I kept missing them. Annoying.

So my options are to have only the cadences on the iPod, or to get a new iPod with a screen so that I can have a cadence play list and scroll right to it. The latter is my favorite option, but it’s extremely wasteful to get a new iPod strictly for convenience. Isn’t it? Yes, it really is.

BUT - what if I sell my old shuffle on eBay?

I am a master rationalizer. You see how I got out of running and might get a new iPod? That’s how I roll.

I haven’t given a fitness update in sometime - mostly because it’s depressing. I had to stop going to the gym for a couple weeks because the baby was sick and on two different rounds of antibiotics. I didn’t want him in the daycare, so we walked and jogged around the neighborhood. It’s crazy how much harder jogging with the jogger is than jogging on a treadmill. One problem is that my jogger lists to the left, so I constantly have to pick up the front end and turn us. Pain in the butt. But I also think it’s the sun, the asphalt, the Santa Ana winds, my bad attitude, etc.

So anyway, back to the point. I’ve been going to the gym a little less regularly (3-4 times per week vs. 6-7), and I try to go when my husband can watch the baby, so he doesn’t keep getting sick from the gym daycare. Even with all these interruptions, my jogging is improving, and I’m up to two miles straight (at 5.0 speed) on the treadmill! The Airborne Ranger cadences on my iPod truly make all the difference.

To keep up the good work, I’ve stopped weighing myself. I plan to weigh in once a month, and that’s it. I’m also hoping to do a 5k in May - something to shoot for. And if I walk, I walk, but I’m still healthier. Who cares if my butt is as big as ever, as long as my heart can sustain it?
