tv

I was so disappointed when I got home last night. All day, I thought it was Wednesday, and I was super excited for the Top Chef finale. Turns out it was only Tuesday and I had nothing to watch. But today IS Wednesday - so tonight I have both Top Chef and So You Think You Can Dance.

Did you hear that Steven Tyler is in drug rehab after like 20 years of sobriety? Sad. I hope he comes through it okay and with renewed determination.

We’ve been watching In Plain Sight on USA. Pretty good, so far. I like Mary McCormick. I’m looking forward the the summer season: Mad Men, Burn Notice, The Closer, Psych, Monk, Saving Grace…good stuff. I’m not looking forward to NBC’s “American Summer” programming: Celebrity Circus, Nashville Star, America’s Got Talent. Yuck.

where do I begin…

So much has been happening. Obama clinches the nomination, So You Think You Can Dance started, I made lots of crafts and food, my son started saying things like “that’s enough, Mommy!” and “just leave it!” Whew. I’ve been avoiding the blog…too much to say.

Hope stickers

Well, let’s start at the beginning. First, I’ve been a little wary to claim victory for Barack - Hillary has 17 million reasons to hold out until the convention, and I wouldn’t put it past her. Obama '08 magnetBut I did receive my cool Obama magnet (my gift for donating), so that’s exciting. I also got my super awesome Shepard Fairey stickers from Sticker Robot, but because of they’re VERY permanent sticking capabilities, I’ve been a little gun shy about sticking them on anything. Not to be too much of a bandwagon fan, but as soon as Barack’s nomination is a little more set in stone, I plan to put the first on on my sewing machine. It’s decidedly naked in it’s unadorned state.

Next on the blogging list? Reality TV. Step it Up and Dance’s finale was a little anti-climatic. I won’t reveal the winner in case it’s still stewing in your Tivo, but I’ll just say it wasn’t much of a surprise. I have been thoroughly enjoying the auditions for this year’s So You Think You Can Dance - I can’t wait for the top 20 to begin their competition. Some of the audition stuff seems to be setting the dancers up for failure. Like that last girl Katie, that got picked over her best friend. They already portrayed her as a quitter to the American public, and made her look like she didn’t care if her friend got in, even though her friend was SOOO supportive of her. So that’s not good. I’m excited about the finale of Top Chef. If Lisa wins I’ll be very sad. I can’t stand the way she stands in front of the judges table - that awful “who gives a shit” face she makes is getting on my nerves. Stephanie and Blaise seem to be more deserving of the title based on their performance throughout the season. I like them both the same.

I think I’ll make my crafty achievements a new post - so that’s it for now.

Idle thoughts on Idol

I really loved Brooke singing with Graham Nash. What a treat. So much more pleasurable that watching Brooke dance! I hated Jordin Sparks gold dress. I totally loved Gladys Knight and the “pips” - my eternal love for Robert Downey Jr. is validated once again.

Those were really the only highlights for me. I fast forwarded most of it. Oh yeah, I thought Syesha outsang Donna Summer, which (along with Donna’s wig) made me a little sad. I liked the George Michael tribute at the end - mostly because I love those songs. Especially Freedom. Chikeze is pretty awesome. I’ll buy his music on iTunes.

I feel bad for the choreographer of the national tour…he’s got a tough road ahead. I think only three or four of those top 12 have any natural rhythm.

Was Paula crying for George Michael? She’s so corny. She’s like the craziest fan girl of them all.

As for the winner, I’m not going to post it, just in case you haven’t watched your Tivo yet. Well, I’ll tell you it’s a David. ha ha ha. Does it really matter which one? They’re both great.

Now, it’s off to Top Chef…and tomorrow, So You Think You Can Dance!! Woo hoo!!!

Mad about Mad Men and other shows

I’ve been watching Mad Men on iTunes…let me just say, AWESOME! I love the characterization, I love the drama…I REALLY love the glimpse at how far the womens’ liberation movement has really brought us! This show is perfect for Hillary’s campaign. The last episode I saw is the one where the account guys are at a loss with how to sell lipstick, so they say, “I’m not a moron, let’s get a moron’s point of view. Let’s give it to the chickens.” Where they proceed to shuffle all the women into a focus group room and let them try on all the shades while they gawk and make rude comments. It was a little disgusting to watch, but I couldn’t turn away. And the women were just as sad as the men. When they used the word brainstorm, one girl says, “Oh no, that sounds hard. Is it like a test?” But of course, Peggy doesn’t play their game. I can’t wait to see what happens with Peggy.

We’ve also been watching - and loving - New Amsterdam on Fox. At first I thought I wasn’t going to like the storyline, but I actually love it. I love when he flashes back to another year and especially when he talks about the past in the present.

I was excited about The Return of Jezebel James, because I loved Gilmore Girls, and I love Parker Posey, but I’m not that crazy about it. The dialogue is kind of lame, and the whole thing is a little exhausting, but not in the same funny way that Gilmore Girls was. The jury is still out, really.

I’m also quickly losing interest in American Idol. Top Chef started back up, and it’s pretty good so far, and I’m looking forward to Step It Up and Dance, although, I’m not a huge fan of Elizabeth Berekley.

Any shows we should be watching?
